Message from the Director

Thursday February 11th. This is the day we found out that we can resume activities at Corbin Senior Activity Center.  You read that correctly,  WE ARE OPEN!  We can have 25% capacity at Corbin, but you are welcome to come back. Let us worry about the capacity.  We have a plan to make sure all who visit can do so safely.

As we open up there may be some delays answering the phones.  We  are currently calling all our volunteer receptionists to see who will be coming back.  I know we have a few not returning and need to fill their place.  If you are interested in being a volunteer receptionist at Corbin contact me.

Corbin Senior Activity Center is looking for a janitor/handyman.  This is a 20 hour a week position.  Please contact Heide for more information.

What is happening at Corbin Senior.

Soup and Social has been a hit.  We are serving 18-30 people Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The soup is homemade and changes weekly, see page 7 for the menu.  We started this venture to encourage our members to reconnect with friends and our community after being isolated for a year.  It has been a success and hopefully we can keep it going.  This small meal is free.  Come and enjoy some company safely.  If you are unsure about  dinning in ,we also have meals to go.

One year ago we had to cancel St. Patrick Day and the Irish were not so happy.  Well, we are working on getting our good luck back, so lets have a meal together.

This meal will look and feel different from our large 100 person gatherings.  We will be doing service on the hour starting at 11am and going to 1pm for 35 people spaced out on 7 tables.  It will feel like a restaurant, hostess and waitress  included.  What will not change is great food.  Reserve your seats today. See page 4 for more information.

We have been having so much fun with meals around Corbin that we wanted to do a Spring Brunch in April.  The event will be the same as St. Patrick’s day.  Reservation are being taken now.  See page 4 for the details.

As services, events, groups, classes, and games return to Corbin I need to ask that everyone help keep Corbin Senior open.  There will no food in the building other than the dinning room.  I know this is different from what you are used to but due to rules that we have to follow regarding food this is the only way to maintain a safe environment for all members.  Our pastries and doughnuts will return, just not while playing cards or games.

Travel has returned to Corbin Senior Activity Center.  We have some fun and exciting trips planned for the end of the year and the beginning of 2022.  Our Day Trips will return later this year, but for the time being they are on hold.

Last month I told you about online Bingo and my commitment to offer the same classes we hold at Corbin, but online.  I am excited to say that Corbin Senior in collaboration with all the other senior centers have received a grant to make this happen.  Soon there will be a new website where seniors can go and be active and interact with other seniors in the area.  Spokane Online Senior Programs a virtual senior center is official!  Starting Monday March 1 our Stretch and Tone class will be held at Corbin Senior Center and online.

Don’t worry if you do not have the means or knowledge to get online.  We will also be giving out tablets and teaching classes about  how to use it.   Those that already have a tablet or laptop can also take these free classes.  This is new so we are working on the dates.

Sincerely, your lead steward
